Uses
Oflox Eye/Ear Drops (Ofloxacin) are prescribed for treating various external eye infections occurring as a result of bacteria. Examples of infections treated include blepharitis, bacterial corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, as well as various other infections not treated here. In some cases, these drops may be used before surgery, to prevent infection, or to treat infections occurring as a result of surgery.
Ear infections (such as otitis externa and otitis media) may also be topically treated with this product. The active ingredient in these drops is a type of quinolone antibiotic which is effective against gram negative bacteria (and some types of gram positive bacteria).
Dosage and Administration
All patients must first consult their doctor for medical advice, before treatment with Oflox Eye/Ear Drops (Ofloxacin) can commence. If your doctor decides that these antibiotic eye/ear drops are suitable for treating your condition, a dosage regimen will be prescribed, and full instructions on use of this product will be provided. Adults treating ocular infections that are mild to moderate in nature are sometimes directed to instil 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye or eyes at 4 hour intervals. Severe infections may require 2 drops. The prescribing doctor will decide how long treatment is required for.
If these drops have been prescribed for the treatment of an ear infection, you must listen carefully to the instructions given by your doctor. Adults treating otitis externa may be told to apply 10 drops twice per day. If chronic suppurative otitis media is being treated, and the patient has a perforated tympanic membrane, the patient may be directed to apply 10 drops, twice per day, with treatment lasting for 14 days. Otitis media may require a different treatment schedule. The dosage regimens listed here are only examples, and in all cases, your doctor will tell you how much to apply, how often to apply the drops and how long you need to continue treatment for.
