Uses
Zoxan D Eye/Ear Drops (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone) is used to treat infections occurring in the eye or ears when the symptoms occur as a result of bacteria. It comes in the form of a suspension and is indicated for ophthalmic or otic use. It has been used to treat acute otitis media (a middle ear infection) in certain patients or otitis externa (an outer ear infection) when the symptoms are caused by microorganisms such as moraxella catarhalis, pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococcus aureus, haemophilus influenzae and streptococcus pneumonia.
These drops are a combination of 2 different ingredients. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with a broad spectrum of action against many different bacteria. Its antibacterial properties are derived from its ability to interfere with an enzyme known as DNA gyrase, which in turn affects the bacterial synthesis of DNA. This allows for the treatment of the infection. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid which exhibits anti-inflammatory activity. It acts by reducing inflammation.
