Uses
Paramax (Paracetamol/Metoclopramide) is primarily used to treat migraine symptoms such as headaches and nausea. Other uses for which it is indicated include relieving pain occurring as a result of gastric stasis or vomiting. This drug is a combination of 2 different medicines, both of which act differently to relive migraines. Paracetamol is widely used for its analgesic properties, and is a common ingredient in many different painkillers. It works by blocking the production of natural substances called prostaglandins. These substances are responsible for pain, and blocking them stops pain.
Metoclopramide, a type of anti-emetic is also contained in this drug. It acts in the digestive system, and increases the activity of a chemical known as acetylcholine, which results in emptying of the stomach, thereby helping to prevent vomiting. Other benefits include acting on the vomiting centre in the brain, so as to reduce the possibility of vomiting and helping the body to quickly absorb the paracetamol, so as to work faster. Some medical researchers have conducted studies based on the use of this drug in combination with other medicines for the treatment of arthritis.
Dosage and Administration
Before using Paramax (Paracetamol/Metoclopramide) to treat migraines, you will need to see your doctor. This is to ensure that a suitable dosage can be prescribed for you. Adults are usually instructed by their doctor to take 2 tablets when the first signs of a migraine attack are noticed, and to wait for at least another 4 hours before another dose is taken. The maximum dosage that doctors tell patients to take is 6 tablets in any period of 24 hours. It is essential that you never take more than the amount your doctor prescribes, as this could result in serious liver damage.
