Uses
Quinin (Quinine Sulphate) is an antimalarial agent which works by attacking the parasites responsible for malaria. It is also used by some people affected by arthritis or other conditions as a treatment for night-time leg cramps when the symptoms are causing regular sleep disruption. Malaria is a serious disease caused by a parasite that is injected into the blood following a bite from an infected mosquito. The parasites multiply in the liver, and when they are sufficient in number, they are released into the bloodstream, causing a malaria attack. By targeting and neutralizing the parasites, it prevents them from spreading, thereby treating malaria.
Dosage and Administration
Quinin (Quinine Sulphate) tablets each contain 300mg of the active ingredient, and should be administered by mouth as directed by the doctor. Adults treating falciparum malaria may be directed by their doctor to take 600mg, at 8 hour intervals with treatment continuing for 7 days. However, this could differ based on individual factors and it will be necessary to follow the instructions given by the doctor in charge of treatment. Patients treating leg cramps are often instructed by their doctor to take 200mg or 300mg before bed, with treatment lasting for 4 weeks. If no improvement occurs after this time, treatment may be stopped.
