Uses
Serenace (Haloperidol) is prescribed to help control symptoms in patients affected by schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions, including paranoid psychoses, mania, aggression and borderline personality disorder. It is also used to control tics in patients with Tourette's syndrome, to treat hiccups that will not go away and it may even be used in combination with other drugs to treat chronic pain.
This medicine can also act on the vomiting centre in the brain, which means that it can be used to prevent vomiting in patients undergoing certain types of treatment that cause vomiting. When used for psychotic illnesses, this medicine helps to reduce abnormal brain excitement while also restoring the balance of neurotransmitters.
Dosage and Administration
Take Serenace (Haloperidol) tablets exactly as your doctor instructs you. Each tablet contains 0.5mg of the main ingredient, however, the exact amount that needs to be taken will depend on why the medicine is being taken. Adults who are being treated for psychosis are often instructed to take a dose ranging from 0.5mg to 5mg, 2 to 3 times per day. Adjustment of the daily dosage may be made by the doctor providing medical treatment. Other conditions, such as mania, Tourette's syndrome and nausea may require a different dosage and it is important that patients only take the amount prescribed to them.
