Uses
Seroflo Rotacaps (Salmeterol/Fluticasone) is a combination prophylactic (preventative) medicine for asthma in adult patients. It needs to be used on a regular basis in order to work, even if no symptoms are present. This orally inhaled product works by relieving airway inflammation so as to lessen the occurrence of asthma attacks. Salmeterol causes bronchodilation (widening of the airways), and its effects last for a long period of time (12 hours). This makes it useful in the treatment of reversible airways obstruction.
Studies have shown that it can stop the response that occurs when allergens are inhaled. The opening up of the arteries is achieved by working on the beta receptors in the lungs, causing these muscles to relax. Because of this, the airways open up, allowing for easier breathing. Fluticasone is a type of corticosteroid which has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory properties. Due to this, the passage of air to the lungs may be improved and the likelihood of an asthma attack decreased.
Dosage and Administration
Seroflo Rotacaps (Salmeterol/Fluticasone) is inhaled orally. A special device is used to administer the capsules, referred to as a rotahaler (which is provided alongside the medicine). Make sure that you thoroughly read the instructions. Ask your doctor if you are not entirely sure about the proper administration procedure. You will require a medical assessment, so that the right dosage can be decided upon.
Patients are generally told to use the lowest dose that controls symptoms. Regular medical visits will be needed, in which your doctor will re-evaluate the dosage and need for treatment. Administration of the medicine should not be abruptly stopped (the only exception to this is if a doctor orders the ceasing of treatment), and patient must only inhale the dosage their doctor determines for them.
Side effects
Treatment of asthma (or any other medical condition) by means of Seroflo Rotacaps (Salmeterol/Fluticasone) could lead to side effects, such as:
If you gargle with clean water after use, the risk of candidiasis in the mouth is decreased. Serious reactions might happen and you will need rapid medical treatment should this occur. Possibilities include bronchospasms, sores inside the mouth, irritation affecting the eyes and other reactions that are not mentioned here.
Precautions
Under no circumstances should this medicine be used as a substitute for a reliever (quick working rescue inhaler). This product works slowly and is used for the long term management of asthma. Patients whose doctors have told them to carry a reliever with them will still need to keep it with them at all times.
These capsules are only to be inhaled using a rotahaler. You must not swallow them or ingest the contents.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Seroflo Rotacaps (Salmeterol/Fluticasone) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
