Uses
Vermox (Mebendazole) is an anthelmintic medicine which is used for threadworm infections. It works by blocking the worms from synthesizing microtublues, which prevents them from absorbing the nutrients they require. Threadworm (enterobius vermicularis) infestation affects the intestines, and it is caused when somebody swallows the eggs of the worm. These worms are considered extremely contagious, and are spread by faeces.
Often, the eggs can attach to bedclothes, toys, pencils and other objects. Symptoms include itching of the anus, which causes the patient to scratch. This allows the eggs to stick to the hands, which may then result in reinfestation or the infection of others. Treatment with these tablets helps to rid the body of the worms, and it is usually recommended that everyone in the household is treated at the same time to ensure that no one remains infected.
Dosage and Administration
Vermox (Mebendazole) choc chews come as chocolate flavoured chewable tablets which are administered orally. Each one contains 100mg of the active ingredient. Doctors advise patients to take a single dose (one tablet) once for the treatment of a worm infestation. It is possible to chew the tablets, which makes administration easy for all family members concerned. Never take more than the dosage recommended by the doctor.
