Voltaren Suppositories

Uses
Voltaren Suppositories (Diclofenac Sodium) are indicated for the relief of pain. This medicine works by blocking prostaglandin production. Conditions for which it is indicated include arthritis, acute gout symptoms, periarthritis, tendinitis, back pain and other related conditions. Patients affected by acute pain caused by sprains, dislocations or fractures, as well as those who have undergone surgical procedures have also been treated with it. This medicine has antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

It achieves this by its inhibition of COX (cyclo-oxygenase, an enzyme which contributes to the production of prostaglandins), thereby relieving inflammation and pain. Suppositories are considered useful in cases when the medicine is not able to be administered orally, such as in patients who are sick and unable to eat or those who have just undergone a surgical procedure. Rectal administration allows for the active ingredients to be absorbed by the body so that the medicine can take effect.

Dosage and Administration
Voltaren Suppositories (Diclofenac Sodium) contain 100mg of the active ingredient. It is provided in the form of a suppository base for rectal administration. You should empty your bowels prior to insertion, and try to remain still for at least a few minutes after inserting it. Prior to using this medicine, it will be necessary to visit your doctor so that the correct dosage and frequency of administration can be determined. If you are not sure of the proper way in which to use it, you must ask your doctor. Do not make any changes to your dosage or take more than recommended, as this could result in serious side effects.

Side effects
Use of Voltaren Suppositories (Diclofenac Sodium) for the relief of pain can sometimes result in side effects, and a list of some possible reactions which patients may experience is given here:

• Vertigo
• Appetite reduction
• Blood liver enzyme level changes
• Stomach and digestive disturbances
• Local irritation at the point of insertion

Ensure that your doctor is notified if you are bothered by any side effects. It is important to be aware of the fact that the list of side effects provided here is not complete and other reactions are also possible, some of which can be serious. Consult your doctor straight away if you experience inflammation affecting the ankles, blurring of eyesight, extreme stomach pain, headaches which do not go away, bloody urine or any other serious side effects.

Precautions
These suppositories are for rectal insertion only. Under no circumstances should it be taken orally.

Patients with haemorrhoids who use suppositories should note that insertion could possible worsen their symptoms.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Voltaren Suppositories (Diclofenac Sodium) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
