Uses
Acupan (Nefopam Hydrochloride) is a painkiller which works by affecting how pain signals are transmitted to the brain. It is used to relieve acute pain occurring as a result of surgery or injuries, and is also effective for dental pain (such as toothaches). Many patients have been treated with it for chronic pain, such as that occurring as a result of cancer or musculo skeletal conditions. Doctors often administer it to patients instead of opioid painkillers.
This medication is referred to as a central analgesic, and although medical experts are not fully sure of all the details relating to its mechanism of action, some experts have commented that its pain relieving effects may be related to inhibiting the reuptake of noradrenaline, serotonin and dopamine. It may even affect histamine receptors and glutamate. Administration of this medicine will not prevent the occurrence of pain, however it will lessen any pain felt by the patient, due to it affecting the pain signals and also by acting in the brain.
