Uses
Apo-Primidone (Primidone) is an anticonvulsant medication which is prescribed to patients affected by epilepsy, to help control seizures. It is believed that this medicine helps to cause an increase in the activity of certain neurotransmitters present in the brain, while also reducing the activity of glutamate (which is believed to be an important factor in triggering epileptic fits). This helps to normalise the electrical activity in the brain, which can result in the prevention or reduction of seizures.
Dosage and Administration
Apo-Primidone (Primidone) comes as 250mg tablets. Patients must only take the amount of medicine that their doctor tells them to take. In some cases, adults are instructed to take 100mg to 125mg just before bed for days 1 to 3 of treatment, and for days 4 to 6, the doctor may increase the dosage, and tell the patient to take 100mg to 125mg, twice per day. For days 7 to 9, the dosage may be increased by the doctor again, and the patient may be instructed to take 100mg to 125mg 3 times per day. After this, from day 10 onwards, the doctor may tell the patient to take 250mg 3 to 4 times per day, and a further increase may be made if deemed necessary by the doctor. However, the maximum dose prescribed is usually 500mg taken 4 times per day.
