Arrow-Lisinopril

Uses
Arrow-Lisinopril (Lisinopril) is indicated for hypertension, heart failure and diabetic nephropathy (a kidney disease occurring in patients with diabetes). It works by relaxing the blood vessels and preventing them from constricting. The mechanism of action is derived from its ability to inhibit the ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme), so as to prevent the tightening and narrowing of the blood vessels.

ACE is a type of substance called a peptidyl dipeptidase, and by blocking it, this medicine prevents the synthesis of angiotensin II (a substance with vasoconstrictive properties). This in turn has a widening effect on the blood vessels and helps to ameliorate high blood pressure. When used for diabetic nephropathy, it may improve the renal function. It has been theorized by experts that this may be due to its effects on the renin angiotensin system.

Dosage and Administration
Arrow-Lisinopril (Lisinopril) is provided in tablet form, and the strength of each tablet is 20mg. Adult patients taking this medicine for the reduction of high blood pressure (and who are not being treated with a diuretic) are often told by their doctor to begin treatment with 10mg per day. The doctor will regularly monitor the patient and decide if any adjustments to the dosage are necessary. Patients are sometimes told to take a maintenance dosage ranging from 20mg to 40mg by their doctor. Diabetic nephropathy (or any other disorder being treated) may require alternate dosage regimens.

Side effects
Use of the ACE inhibitor Arrow-Lisinopril (Lisinopril) could cause some patients to experience side effects, such as:

• Coughing
• Dizziness
• Indigestion
• Drop in libido
• Erectile difficulties

It is essential that all side effects are promptly and thoroughly reported to your doctor. Medical treatment will be needed immediately if you suffer from skin problems, a reduction in urination, aching which affects the whole body or any other serious side effects not listed here.

Precautions
Should dizziness occur, it may be necessary for you to rest until the symptoms go away. Avoid dangerous tasks if this happens.

Regular visits to your doctor will be scheduled so that your blood pressure can be monitored, as well as other aspects of your health.
