Uses
Benace (Benazepril) is known by medical experts as a non-sulfhydryl angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. It is used either on its own or alongside diuretic medicines to treat high blood pressure, and works by causing the inhibition of the ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme). ACE contributes to the increase in blood pressure by bringing about the conversion of angiotension I into angiotensin II (a substance with vasoconstrictive properties).
This causes the tightening of blood vessels, leading to higher blood pressure. Another effect is that it causes the secretion of a hormone known as aldosterone. By inhibiting the angiotensin converting enzyme, treatment with this medicine leads to a reduction in plasma angiotensin II, the result of which is decreased blood pressure. It was also studied for its potential benefits in helping to guard patients against the worsening of renal insufficiency and some patients have also been treated with it for congestive heart failure.
Dosage and Administration
Benace (Benazepril) 5mg tablets are taken by mouth with water. In all cases, your doctor will decide the correct dosage, and the exact circumstances surrounding your condition will require careful examination before the required daily dosage can be accurately determined. Adult patients who are not being treated with a diuretic are normally instructed by their doctor to administer 10mg once per day.
For maintenance treatment, the dosage may be adjusted and the patient might be directed to administer 20mg to 40mg each day (as 1 to 2 divided doses). The dosage for diabetic nephropathy, heart failure or any other condition may vary. Always comply with the dosage directions given by your doctor.
