Uses
Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil) injection is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction occurring as a result of emotional problems, blood vessel complications, high blood pressure, prostate conditions, diabetes or any other causes. ED is a common disorder affecting a substantial amount of men, both young and old. A problem related to the nervous function or the blood vessels can result in a failure to achieve or maintain an erection which is firm enough to engage in penetrative sexual intercourse.

The active ingredient in this medicine is also referred to as PGE1. It is a type of prostaglandin with vasodilative properties (meaning it causes the blood vessels to become wider). When injected locally into the penis, it can induce a penile erection by causing the trabecular smooth muscle (erectile tissue inside the penis) to relax while also triggering the arteries of the corpora cavernosa to become dilated.

As a result of this, the flow of blood into the penis is increased, resulting in an erection. It also helps to maintain the blood inside the penis for a period of time, allowing the patient to engage in sexual activity. A study conducted showed that injection treatment is one of the most effective non surgical methods of treating erectile problems.

Dosage and Administration
Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil) injection is supplied with a disposable needle for injection. You will need to consult your doctor for full instructions on how to properly use it, as improper administration is hazardous. Your doctor will also need to conduct a medical assessment to determine whether or not it is suitable for you. The first step is to assemble the syringe and needle. It is important that you do not touch the needle.

After the needle is properly attached to the syringe, you will need to clean the single use vials using an alcohol swab. To mix the dose, it is necessary to load the diluents. Take the cover off the syringe and insert the needle so that it penetrates the diluents vial`s rubber top, taking special care not to bend the needle. The plunger should be pulled backwards until there is no more diluent in the vial, after which the plunger may be pushed back to the specified syringe mark (your doctor will tell you the correct mark).

It is then possible to remove the syringe from the vial. After this, you will need to mix the diluent with the vial containing the powder form of the active ingredient which is also contained in a vial. The correct dosage and an injection site will need to be decided upon by your doctor. Generally, patients are told to inject it into the spongy tissue on the shaft of the penis (but veins must be avoided). Before injection, the penis will need to be swabbed. It is essential that the correct spot is selected for injection, and if you are unsure, ask your doctor. After use, the syringe will need to be properly disposed of. It must never be reused.

Side effects
Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil) may cause:

• Blocked nose
• Spinning sensation
• Bumps appearing on the penis
• Minor bleeding at the injection site
• Pain affecting the penis or surrounding area

Other side effects not listed here may also occur. Tell your doctor about any reactions you experience. If you notice an erection lasting for 4 hours or longer, extreme pain in your penis, bruises or inflammation at the area of injection, urine containing blood, inflammation of the veins in the legs or any other signs of a severe reaction, seek medical attention immediately.

Precautions
This medicine is only for use in men and must not be used by females. However, men affected by leukaemia, multiple myeloma, sickle cell anaemia, or those with an unusually shaped penis, penis implant or certain other conditions are not able to use it. Discuss this with your doctor before beginning treatment.

Patients are generally told by their doctor not to use it in excess of 3 times in any one week and to allow at least 24 hours in between each administration. You will need to follow your doctor`s instructions regarding how and when to use it.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
