Uses
Comfora (Pentosan Polysulphate Sodium) is indicated for the treatment of interstitial cystitis (sometimes called bladder pain syndrome). It works by protecting the bladder against irritation from substances present in the urine which may cause irritation. Patients affected by interstitial cystitis (IC) may experience pain in the bladder which may be accompanied by frequent urination.

Many doctors believe that these symptoms are due to an abnormality in the bladder lining. This medicine's mechanism of action involves attaching to the wall of the bladder, which helps to form a protective layer on the bladder surface. It also acts as an anticoagulant, meaning that bruising or bleeding may occur in some patients. Medical studies have been conducted which examined its effects in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis.

Dosage and Administration
Comfora (Pentosan Polysulphate Sodium) comes in the form of 100mg strength capsules which are administered orally, in strict accordance with the dosage schedule recommended by your doctor. In general, adult patients treating interstitial cystitis may be directed by their doctor to take 300mg per day. This means that 1 capsule should be taken as 3 separate doses. It is also likely that your doctor will advise taken the capsules either 1 hour (or more) before eating or else 2 hours after you finish a meal. Never exceed the dosage recommended by the doctor in charge of treatment.

Side effects
Some side effects that may occur during the course of treatment with Comfora (Pentosan Polysulphate Sodium) include:

• Vertigo
• Headache
• Diarrhoea
• Loss of hair
• Stomach pain

All reactions should be reported to your doctor. Get medical assistance straight away if you suffer from nosebleeds, coughing up blood, bloody stools, sore eyes, visual problems or any other serious side effects that have not been listed here.

Precautions
This medicine is a mild blood thinner (anticoagulant). You may need to stop taking it temporarily if any surgery is due to take place. Discuss this with your doctor before beginning treatment.

If you are currently undergoing anticoagulant treatment or taking any NSAIDs, talk to your doctor before you start taking this medicine to see whether or not it is safe and suitable for you.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Comfora (Pentosan Polysulphate Sodium) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
