Doxacard

Uses
Doxacard (Doxazosin) belongs to a class of medicines referred to as alpha-adrenergic blockers. Conditions it is prescribed to treat include high blood pressure and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate). This drug works by relaxing and widening the veins, thereby making it easier for the blood to flow, and leading to a drop in blood pressure. It also helps the muscles in the prostate and bladder to relax, thereby relieving urination problems in men with an enlarged prostate. Medical studies have been conducted to determine whether or not this drug is effective at treating erectile dysfunction.

Dosage and Administration
You must consult your doctor before taking Doxacard (Doxazosin) tablets. This is so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Adult patients who are treating hypertension are often told to take 1mg per day at the beginning of treatment. The dosage may then be adjusted, and the patient may be told to take 1mg to 16mg per day. If benign prostatic hyperplasia is being treated, it is possible that the doctor will prescribe a dosage of 1mg, taken once per day, after which a maintenance dose ranging from 1mg to 8mg may be prescribed. The dosage guidelines given here are for reference purposes only, and every patient must only take the dosage prescribed by their doctor.

Side effects
Patients should be aware that treatment with Doxacard (Doxazosin) may sometimes result in side effects, such as:

• Rhinitis
• Dizziness
• Coughing
• A decrease in sexual ability
• Inflammation of the limbs

While you are taking this drug, you should tell your doctor about any side effects which occur. Serious reactions which require immediate medical attention include a prolonged and painful erection, breathing problems and pain in the chest. Other side effects which have not been listed here may also occur, and you should see your doctor immediately if this happens.

Precautions
You are advised not to drive or operate machinery for the first 24 hours after taking this medicine or after your doctor has increased your dosage, because it is possible that you will become dizzy.

If you suffer from or have a history of any medical conditions affecting the heart or liver, it is necessary for you to clearly state this to your doctor before beginning treatment.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Doxacard (Doxazosin) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
