Uses
Doxacard (Doxazosin) is prescribed to patients affected by enlargement of the prostate gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia). In addition to this, it is considered effective for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). When used to treat urinary symptoms related to prostate gland enlargement, it works by acting on the alpha receptors in the prostate, which in turn causes the relaxation of the prostate gland. As a result of this, relief from urinary symptoms occurs.
This drug is also widely prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure, as it has been shown to treat this condition. It inhibits the alpha receptors which occur in the blood vessels. This results in the blood passing more easily through the blood vessels, leading to the eventual reduction of blood pressure. Medical researchers have also conducted studies to determine the effectiveness of this drug if used to treat erectile dysfunction.
Dosage and Administration
Doxacard (Doxazosin) comes in the form of 4mg tablets, which need to be taken by mouth. A full medical examination is required before commencing treatment, so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Doctors sometimes direct adults undergoing treatment for high blood pressure to start out with an initial dose of 1mg per day.
Maintenance treatment may require an adjustment to the dosage, and patients may be prescribed a dosage ranging from 1mg to 16mg, taken once per day. Benign prostatic hyperplasia may require a different dosage, and it is important to follow the instructions given by your doctor.
