Uses
Cymbalta (Duloxetine) has a number of uses. It is commonly used as a treatment for anxiety (GAD or generalized anxiety disorder) and depression. In addition to this, it is considered effective at relieving pain occurring as a result of fibromyalgia, and can also treat peripheral neuropathy (pain caused by damage to the nerves) in patients suffering from diabetes, arthritis or other conditions. The active ingredient in this drug belongs to a class of medicines known as serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), and it treats depression by restoring the equilibrium of serotonin and noradrenaline (sometimes called norepinephrine) in the brain.
Dosage and Administration
Patients need a full medical consultation before starting treatment with Cymbalta (Duloxetine) capsules. Patients undergoing treatment for fibromyalgia are often prescribed an initial dose of 30mg, taken once per day. The prescribing doctor may increase the dosage to 60mg (also once per day) after 1 week of treatment. The dosage for depression, anxiety and other types of pain can vary, and all patients must follow the dosage instructions provided by their doctor. It is important to note that abruptly ceasing treatment may cause withdrawal symptoms, and doctors generally advise against this. You may need to have your dosage gradually adjusted when stopping treatment.

While you are taking this drug, you should report any side effects you experience to your doctor. It is possible that serious reactions will occur, however, this is rare. Precautions
Antidepressants can lead to an improvement of symptoms in patients affected by depression. However, a small number of patients (especially those younger than 25 years of age) may experience a worsening of depression or in some cases, thoughts of suicide. Your are advised to talk to your doctor about all the possible risks of treatment before taking this medication.
MAO inhibitors should never be taken for at least two weeks before starting treatment, for the entire duration of treatment and for a minimum of 2 weeks after treatment, as a serious drug reaction may occur.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
