Uses
Symbal (Duloxetine) is an antidepressant medication. In addition to treating patients affected by depression, it is also used for fibromyalgia, DPN (diabetic peripheral neuropathy), musculoskeletal pain related to osteoarthritis and other chronic pain conditions. It is a type of SNRI (serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor) that works by acting on neurotransmitters in the brain, which makes it effective for major depressive disorder. When used for pain, it acts by blocking pain signals. This drug has also been researched for stress urinary incontinence, anxiety and interstitial cystitis.
Precautions
Symbal (Duloxetine) comes as tablets, each of which contains 20mg of the active ingredient. The dosage is based on the patient's individual circumstances and will be decided by a doctor. Adults treating depression are usually told to start out with a dosage ranging from 40mg per day (given as 20mg twice per day) to 60mg per day (as one dose per day or else 30mg taken twice per day). Patients who are being given this medicine to help manage pain may be told to take 60mg once per day, however, some patients may be told to start out with a lower dosage. The dosage for fibromyalgia or other conditions may be different, and in all cases patients must follow the instructions given by their doctor.
