Uses
Escitalopram (Escitalopram Oxalate) is a type of SSRI medicine used for major depressive episodes in patients with depression, generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and other conditions. Its mode of administration involves acting on the serotonin system in the brain and raising the serotonin levels.
Dosage and Administration
Escitalopram (Escitalopram Oxalate) is supplied in the form of 10mg and 20mg tablets for oral administration. After a medical consultation, your doctor will be able to determine the correct dosage. Some patients treating anxiety have been directed by their doctor to begin treatment with 10mg taken once per day. The tablet may be taken in the morning or evening. If the prescribing doctor deems it necessary, the dosage may be increased after a week and the patient will be told to take 20mg per day.
Adult patients with depression might also be directed to begin treatment with a dosage of 10mg per day, which the doctor providing treatment may increase to 20mg per day after 3 weeks of treatment. However, it is important to note that the required dosage often differs for each individual. Because of this you must only take the amount of medicine that your doctor tells you to take. Sudden cessation of medical treatment could trigger withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor may taper your dosage in order to prevent this.
