Uses
Glucobay (Acarbose) is used to control blood sugar levels in patients affected by non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 2 diabetes). This medicine works by blocking the action of certain enzymes in the intestine (such as sucrose) that break down food and release sugars into the blood. By slowing down the digestive process, this medicine helps to prevent high blood sugar levels from occurring after a meal has been consumed.
Dosage and Administration
Follow the instructions given to you by your doctor when taking Glucobay (Acarbose) tablets. These tablets are taken with the first bite of food of each main meal. Your doctor may tell you to take 25mg, 3 times per day. However, your dosage may be adjusted, and a maintenance dose of 50mg to 100mg (taken 3 times per day) may be prescribed. It is essential that all instructions given to you by your doctor at the time of prescription are followed.
