Uses
Livercol (Rosuvastatin Calcium) contains the active ingredient Rosuvastatin Calcium. Rosuvastatin is a statinthat is often prescribed for decreasing cholesterol and treating heart disease. Statins like rosuvastatin can reduce the amount of plaque build-up around the blood vessels, which can help lower the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Livercol (Rosuvastatin Calcium) is most commonly prescribed in cases of hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) to reduce the amount of bad cholesterol in the blood. Statins should be taken in conjuctions with improved diet, weight management, and regular exercise.
Rosuvastatin works by reducing the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver. It inhibits an enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) that it creates cholesterol in the liver. Rosuvastatin reduces total cholesterol and LDL (the bad cholesterol that increases risk of heart disease).
Dosage and Administration
Livercol (Rosuvastatin Calcium) should be taken daily. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. There are various different dosages that can be prescribed depending on your specific situation. The lowest dosage is 5 mg per day. Some patients need a higher dosage up to 40 mg per day. Most times, you will start on a low dose and increase gradually as required. Your doctor will be able to work out you optimal dosage. Do not change the dosage on your own, and do not stop taking Rosuvastatinunless advised by your doctor.
Side effects
When you first take Livercol (Rosuvastatin Calcium) you may feel nauseous and may vomit. Taking Rosuvastatin after eating can reduce these effects. You may notice some sleeping problems. You can take it earlier in the day if you notice signs of insomnia. Other common side effects you may experience include fatigue, headaches, and irritability.
Tell your doctor immediately if you notice changes in the color of your urine or if your skin begins to yellow as this can suggest liver problems resulting from use of rosuvastatin. If you experience memory loss and confusion it may be that your dosage is too high. Seek immediate medical help if such problems occur.
