Onychomycosis (nail infection) | Amorolfine Hydrochloride | Loceryl Nail Lacquer |
Uses
Loceryl Nail Lacquer (Amorolfine Hydrochloride) is used on the nails as a treatment for onychomycosis (a nail infection) occurring as a result of dermatophytes or fungi. The active ingredient in this lacquer penetrates the nails and eliminates the fungi by destroying their cell membranes. This leads to the eventual treatment of the infection.
Dosage and Administration
Loceryl Nail Lacquer (Amorolfine Hydrochloride) should be used in accordance with your doctor's instructions. Adults are generally instructed by the prescribing doctor to apply the lacquer 1 to 2 times per week.
However, prior to applying the solution, it is necessary for you to file down the nail, using the files provided. These files should be disposed of after use. After filing the nail, it is necessary to clean nail's surface. A cleaning pad is provided for this purpose. The lacquer can then be applied to the nail, using the applicator. Apply it to the entire surface of each infected nail, and allow the nail to dry for 3 minutes. Remember to clean the applicator before replacing it.
You should note that it is necessary to clean the nail or nails (to remove the old lacquer), and to file and clean them before each re-application. Patients should note that 6 months of treatment are generally required to treat an infection of the fingernails, whereas toenail infections take 9 to 12 months. Your doctor will schedule regular appointments to determine whether or not the treatment is effective.
Side effects
Some patients who use Loceryl Nail Lacquer (Amorolfine Hydrochloride) to treat a nail infection may notice a burning sensation in the treated area. If this is severe, or if any other signs of a serious reaction occur, you should go and see your doctor.
Precautions
Remember that you should not use nail files that have been previously used to file infected nails on healthy nails.
Patients should note that nail varnish should not be used during treatment. It is also important to avoid allowing the lacquer coming into contact with the mucous membranes, eyes or ears.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Loceryl Nail Lacquer (Amorolfine Hydrochloride) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
