Angina | Glyceryl Trinitrate | MYONIT INSTA |
Uses
MYONIT INSTA (Glyceryl Trinitrate) is used to treat heart conditions such as angina, so as to prevent the occurrence of or provide relief from angina attacks. It works by causing vasodilation (widening of the veins). When administered, it is denitrated by the body, resulting in the production of the active form called nitric oxide (NO), a type of chemical which the body can produce naturally. It acts on the blood vessels and causes them to dilate (widen), meaning that there is more space available inside the veins.
This in turn allows the blood to be pumped from the heart in a much more effective manner. Another benefit is that the amount of oxygen supplied to the heart is increased. This can relieve angina attacks, as the pain felt by those affected by angina is caused by insufficient oxygen being supplied to the heart. Other conditions for which patients have used it for include acute myocardial infarction and spasms that affect the blood vessels in the heart. Medical studies have also been conducted to research its effects if used for hypertension. However, it is not prescribed for that particular condition.
Dosage and Administration
MYONIT INSTA (Glyceryl Trinitrate) sublingual tablets contain 0.5mg of the active ingredient. These tablets are not swallowed. To administer it, you place it underneath the tongue and allow it to dissolve. This allows for the active ingredient to be rapidly absorbed so that its benefits can be felt quickly. Some patients may be told to take it at the onset of an angina attack. Your doctor may also advise you to take it as a preventative against an angina attack, such as before exercising. Never take more than the amount your doctor tells you to take, as this can be dangerous. Specific instructions with regard to the correct dosage and the frequency of administration will be given to you by your doctor before you take the medicine.
