Uses
Nilstat (Nystatin) is an anti-fungal medication, primarily for the treatment of oral or intestinal yeast infections. The active ingredient in these capsules works by preventing the fungus responsible for the infections from growing. However, your doctor may prescribe this medication for the treatment of other conditions. It should not be used to treat fungal blood infections.
Dosage and Administration
For the treatment of most fungal conditions, you will be prescribed 1 or 2 tablets, 3 times daily for up to 5 days. However you should only use Nilstat (Nystatin) oral tablets as directed by your doctor. You are advised to keep taking it for the prescribed period of time to avoid reinfection.
Side effects
The occurrence of side effects after taking Nilstat (Nystatin) is considered to be rare. However some people may experience diarrhoea, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting.
Precautions
Patients with HIV, or those who suffer from or have ever suffered from diabetes or kidney disease should tell their doctor before they begin taking this medication.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Nilstat (Nystatin) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
