Uses
Persol 5 Gel (Benzyl Peroxide) is used by people wishing to treat acne. It belongs to a class of medicines referred to as keratolytics, and its mode of action involves causing the breakdown of a certain type of protein important to the structure of the skin (keratin).

Topical application of the gel triggers the shedding of the top layered skin cells, helping to rid the skin of whiteheads and blackheads, while at the same time unblocking the sebaceous glands. In addition to this, it has the added benefit of destroying propionebacterium acnes, a type of bacteria associated in acne which can cause spots and irritation of the skin.

Dosage and Administration
Persol 5 Gel (Benzyl Peroxide) is for external use on the skin. However, using excess amounts of it must be avoided, as this will not speed up recovery, and may even cause irritated skin. Follow the application instructions given by your doctor. Patients undergoing acne treatment are sometimes told to apply the gel 1 to 2 times per day, taking care to avoid contact with the eyes, nasal lining, broken skin or any other sensitive areas.
