Uses
Reactin-100 SR (Diclofenac Sodium BP) works by affecting the activity of cyclo-oxygenase. This helps to ease pain and reduce inflammation. It is indicated for the treatmetn of acute pain affecting the back or elsewhere in the body either due to injuries (sprains, fractures or breaks) or other causes. Additional uses include the treatment of arthritis in its various forms, for example acute gout, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Certain acute musculoskeletal disorders (such as tendonitis) can also be treated with it, and some women have been given it as a dysmenorrhoea (menstrual pain) treatment. This medicine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that derives its anti-inflammatory due to its ability to block the synthesis of prostaglandins in the body.
This is because it blocks COX (cyclooxygenase, a type of enzyme sometimes referred to as prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase). As a result of this, inflammation and pain is reduced. The active ingredient is also known to diffuse with synovial fluid in the joints, however medical experts are not entirely sure if this contributes to its effectiveness.
Dosage and Administration
Reactin-100 SR (Diclofenac Sodium BP) comes as specially formulated prolonged release tablets. The strength of each tablet is 100mg. It is essential that the tablets are swallowed whole instead of being chewed. Patients must also avoid crushing them. This is because breaking up the tablets will affect the prolonged release mechanism and could result in undesirable effects. The purpose of prolonged release tablets is to ensure that the medicine is released slowly and on a continued basis over a set period of time. Decisions regarding the correct dosage will be made by your doctor and it is absolutely necessary to follow all directions provided to you.
