It works by blocking certain receptors in the brain (alpha-2 receptors), which helps to enhance the positive effects of serotonin and noradrenaline on the brain. In some cases, patients have used this medicine to treat other conditions, such as anxiety, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), post traumatic stress disorder, itching, migraine, nausea, as well as other conditions. Underweight patients have also used it to help with weight gain.

Patients who are taking Remeron (Mirtazapine) for depression should strictly follow the instructions provided by their doctor. This medicine comes as 30mg tablets. The prescribing doctor may then decide to adjust the dosage, based on the patient`s response to treatment, and a maintenance dosage which can range from 15mg to 45mg may be prescribed.
