Uses
Mirnite Meltab-15 (Mirtazapine) treats depression by affecting serotonergic and noradrenergic activity in the brain. This medicine is a TeCA (tetracyclic antidepressant) and its mode of action involves inhibiting the alpha-2 receptors that occur in the brain's nerve cells. As a direct result of this, the neurotransmitters noradrenaline and serotonin are prevented from binding to the nerve cells, thereby enhancing their positive effects on the mood and helping to correct the deficiency of noradrenaline and serotonin which is believed to cause depression.
Other receptors are also affected by this medicine, and this could explain some of its sedative properties, as well as other side effects. Major depressive disorder is not the only condition for which patients have taken this medicine, and it may be useful for other conditions due to its anxiolytic, antiemetic and hypnotic properties. Researchers have carried out studies to examine its effects if used as an appetite stimulant, to treat insomnia, for the prevention of nausea, and to treat migraine or anxiety. Doctors may also use it to treat other conditions not listed here.
Dosage and Administration
Mirnite Meltab-15 (Mirtazapine) is provided as special melt in mouth tablets which are designed to quickly dissolve inside the mouth, allowing them to be swallowed. Doctors often direct adults treating depression to begin with 15mg, administered at bedtime. Continual assessment of the response to treatment will be required by the doctor and changes to the daily dosage may be made. The required daily maintenance dosage generally ranges from 15mg to 45mg per day.

Make sure that you tell the doctor about any side effects that occur. Although it is generally a less common occurrence, there is a risk of serious side effects occurring that will require medical attention immediately. Precautions
Suddenly stopping treatment could trigger withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor may slowly reduce the dosage before stopping it completely to avoid this. Patients will also be directed not to drink alcohol during treatment, so as to reduce the risk of drowsiness.
Your doctor will tell you not take this medicine alongside an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor), or if you have taken an MAOI in the last 14 days. After stopping treatment, you may also need to allow a certain period of time before an MAOI can be taken.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Mirnite Meltab-15 (Mirtazapine) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
