Uses
Mirnite Meltab-7.5 (Mirtazapine) is a tetracyclic antidepressant widely used for major depressive disorder as well as other related conditions. It works by enhancing the activity of serotonin and noradrenaline. These neurotransmitters are normally released in the brain and are commonly acknowledged as having a beneficial effect on the emotions and mood. Depression has been associated with reduced serotonin and noradrenaline activity.

By effectively preventing the neurotransmitters serotonin and noradrenaline from binding to the nerve cells, this medication helps to ensure that when these neurotransmitters are released, they continue to exhibit positive effects on the mood. This helps relieve depression. Studies have also shown that it may act as an antagonist of the histamine H1 receptors, which could result in sedative effects. Other potential applications for which it has been studied include anxiety, OCD, post-traumatic stress disorder, migraine headaches, nausea, insomnia and use as an appetite stimulant in underweight patients.

Dosage and Administration
Mirnite Meltab-7.5 (Mirtazapine) comes as 7.5mg strength orally disintegrating tablets. Before treatment begins, your doctor will assess the seriousness of your symptoms and determine the most suitable dosage. It is common for doctors to instruct patients using this medicine for depression to start treatment with 15mg per day, taken as one dose before going to sleep. This may be adjusted if the doctor deems it necessary and the usual dosage range for maintenance treatment is 15mg to 45mg per day. Never exceed the recommended dosage.

Side effects
Treatment with Mirnite Meltab-7.5 (Mirtazapine) could lead to side effects in some cases. These may include:

• Vertigo
• Weight gain
• Constipation
• Drowsy feeling
• Appetite changes

Patients will be required to report all side effects to their doctor. Should you suffer from hallucinations, abnormal reflexes, extremely rigid muscles, fever, tremors or any other severe reactions not listed here, ensure that you seek medical care straight away.

Precautions
This medicine must never be combined with MAO inhibitors, nor should it be taken within 14 days of one. A severe reaction which can be life threatening may occur if this happens. Talk to your doctor about this.

Withdrawal symptoms may occur if treatment is abruptly ceased. Although they are temporary, they may be unpleasant. Your doctor may advise gradual cessation of treatment in order to prevent this.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Mirnite Meltab-7.5 (Mirtazapine) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
