Uses
Zitromax (Azitromisin) is a type of macrolide antibiotic, which is effective against many different types of bacteria. Infections it is used to treat include bronchitis, pneumonia, pharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, ear infections, skin infections (abscesses and boils), chlamydia and many other types of bacterial infections which are not listed here. This medicine works by preventing the bacteria from producing essential proteins, thereby preventing the spread of the infection. As a result of this, any bacteria that remain are destroyed by the immune system.
Dosage and Administration
A tissue sample may be required by your doctor before prescribing Zitromax (Azitromisin), to ensure that the bacteria responsible for your infection are susceptible to this medication. When prescribing it to you, your doctor will tell you how much to take, and how often to take it. This drug comes as an oral suspension, and the dosage must be carefully measured, to ensure that the correct amount of medicine is being administered. Adults are sometimes told to take 500mg, as a single dose. Treatment can last for 3 days. Chlamydia usually requires a 1g dose, taken once per day. Continue treatment for the entire period prescribed by your doctor (unless told otherwise).
