Uses
Carloc (Carvedilol) is a beta blocker which is indicated for the treatment of congestive heart failure, hypertension and angina. Its method of action involves affecting the beta receptors in the body so as to lower the strain on the heart. This in turn leads to reduced noradrenaline and adrenaline action on the heart, which allows it to beat slower. As a result of this, blood is pumped from the heart with less pressure than normal, leading to a reduction in hypertension.

This is important, as it can help reduce the risk of kidney disorders, strokes or even heart attacks. In addition to blocking the action of the beta adrenergic receptors, it also blocks the alpha andoceptors, which contributes to a further reduction in hypertension. The effects of this drug can also improve blood flow in patients with heart failure. In some cases, patients affected by atrial fibrillation have been treated with this medicine.

Dosage and Administration
Carloc (Carvedilol) comes as 3.125mg tablets which are administered by mouth. Your doctor may advise you to take the tablet with food and water. The dosage can vary considerably for each patient, with various factors taken into consideration by your doctor when determining the correct dosage. In some cases, adults being treated for congestive heart failure may be directed to start out with a dosage of 3.125mg administered twice per day for a period of 2 weeks.

If the doctor providing treatment believes that this dosage is well tolerated, the patient may be instructed to 6.25mg taken twice per day. Further adjustments may take place at 2 week intervals (at the discretion of the doctor). The maximum dosage ranges from 25mg to 50mg twice per day, depending on the patient's body weight. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor and never exceed the recommended dosage.

Side effects
There is a possibility that patients undergoing treatment with Carloc (Carvedilol) may experience side effects, such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Sleep problems
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Sore and painful joints
  • Dryness which affects the eyes

Side effects must be reported to the doctor who is providing treatment. Although it is considered to be a less common occurrence, there is a possibility of severe reactions occurring as a result of treatment with this medicine. You must immediately seek medical treatment if you experience symptoms of high blood sugar levels, skin blistering, sudden weight increases or any other side effects that have not been listed here.

Precautions
Abrupt cessation without seeking the advice of your doctor must be avoided, as a worsening of symptoms may occur as a result of this. Your doctor may decide to gradually reduce your dosage over a 1 to 2 week period if the decision is made to cease treatment.

Dizziness can occur after taking this medicine, especially if you are getting up from a chair or if you have been lying down. When getting up, it is important to do this slowly so as to reduce the risk of fainting.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Carloc (Carvedilol) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
