Uses
Catapres (Clonidine Hydrochloride) is known as a centrally acting alpha agonist hypotensive agent which is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. Its mode of action when used for lowering blood pressure involves stimulating alpha receptors in the brain. As a direct result of this, nervous signals sent out by the brain which constrict the blood vessels are reduced, leading to a drop in high blood pressure. Some doctors have also prescribed it for off label uses. Disorders for which it has been the subject of medical research include sleep problems, insomnia, anxiety, smoking cessation, alcohol withdrawal, rosacea, restless leg syndrome, migraine, hot flushes in menopausal women, Tourette's syndrome and other disorders.

Dosage and Administration
Catapres (Clonidine Hydrochloride) tablets contain 150mcg of medicine. Changes to the dosage regimen will be made by your doctor in accordance with how the blood pressure responds to medical treatment. The doctor in charge of medical treatment will be in charge of determining the correct dosage and frequency of administration in all cases and patients are required to fully comply with all instructions their doctor gives to them. It is a common practice for patients to be directed to commence treatment with a low dosage. Depending on the doctor's opinion, the dosage may be increased (however the patient must never increase the dosage unless specifically ordered to do so by a doctor).
