Uses
Depsol (Imipramine Hydrochloride) is a dibenzazepine tricyclic antidepressant which can help patients with depression by acting on the neurotransmitter systems. Some doctors have also treated patients affected by bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) with it, and people suffering from chronic pain have also taken it. Medical experts have attributed its antidepressive effects to its blocking of noradrenaline uptake (reabsorption) at the nerve endings. This enhances the positive mental effects of noradrenaline and helps to reduce depressed emotions.
Dosage and Administration
Depsol (Imipramine Hydrochloride) comes in tablet form and the medicine content of each one is 25mg. Outpatients undergoing treatment for depression are sometimes instructed by their doctor to begin treatment with a dosage regimen consisting of 75mg per day (as separate doses). Your doctor will tell you when to take each tablet and it is necessary to comply with all instructions given. Gradual dosage titration may be ordered by your doctor.
Side effects
Patients undergoing treatment with Depsol (Imipramine Hydrochloride) should note that side effects are possible, and a list of some examples is given here:
Report all reactions to the doctor who is providing medical treatment. Although the side effects listed above are considered mild, other reactions of a serious nature can occur. See your doctor immediately if you notice problems related to speech, shaking which you have no ability to control, seizures, hallucinations, symptoms of fever or any other serious reactions that have not been mentioned here.
Precautions
Suicidal thoughts or abnormal behaviour has occurred in patients treated with antidepressant medications. Consult your doctor straight away if this occurs.
This medicine can cause a dangerous drug reaction if taken alongside (or within 14 days of) an MAO inhibitor. Discuss this with your doctor before beginning treatment.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Depsol (Imipramine Hydrochloride) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
