Uses
Gabapin (Gabapentin) is mainly used for treating epilepsy. It is a type of medicine known as an anticonvulsant. When taken, it decreases the amount of glutamate (a neurotransmitter that can contribute to abnormal brain activity). This helps to normalise the electrical activity in the brain, thereby helping to prevent epileptic fits. Other conditions for which patients have used this drug for include migraine, menopausal symptoms, bipolar disorder, diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia (nerve pain caused by shingles), trigeminal neuralgia and restless leg syndrome.
Dosage and Administration
Gabapin (Gabapentin) comes in the form of 400mg capsules. Adult patients who are treating epilepsy are sometimes told to start out with a low dosage, after which the doctor will gradually increase the dosage. Restless leg syndrome, postherpetic neuralgia and any other conditions which this medicine is being used to treat may require a different dosage regimen. Because of this, it is essential that you only take the amount of medicine that your doctor prescribes to you.
