Uses
Neurontin (Gabapentin) can help control epileptic seizures by affecting glutamate, and it can also treat nerve pain due to it acting on the transmission of pain signals. This medicine is said to be similar to GABA (a neurotransmitter in the brain), and experts have theorized that its anticonvulsant activity may be due to it lowering the amount of glutamate that the brain releases. This has a stabilising effect on the brain and can help prevent seizures in patients with epilepsy. Neuropathic pain caused by diabetic neuropathy and herpetic neuralgia can be relieved due to it reducing the pain response and affecting neurotransmitters.
Dosage and Administration
Each Neurontin (Gabapentin) capsule contains 400mg of the active ingredient. Your doctor will conduct a medical assessment before the dosage can be determined. Full instructions related to the daily dosage and frequency of administration will be provided. It is often the case that titration is needed, and some patients may be told by their doctor to take a low dosage on the first day, which may be increased on day 2 and again on day 3. Do not change your dosage unless it is your doctor who told you to do so, and remember that amounts in excess of the recommended dosage must never be taken.
