Uses
Gentalene Plus Cream (Beclomethasone Dipropionate/Neomycin/Clotrimazole) is used to treat dermatoses that are treatable with corticosteroids when a fungal or bacterial infection is also present. It is a combination of corticosteroid, antifungal and antibiotic ingredients. Beclomethasone is a corticosteroid medicine which has frequently been used in the treatment of eczema and other inflammatory skin disorders.
Medical experts believe that it may work by affecting the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which in turn may help to prevent inflammation. Clotrimazole is an antifungal medicine which blocks the biosynthesis of sterols which are vital to the formation of cell membranes. It can also affect the fungal cell wall permeability, and is effective against a wide range of fungi which can cause infections.
Neomycin is a type of antibiotic known as an aminoglycoside. It targets a wide range of bacteria by affecting the synthesis of bacterial proteins. When applied topically, it can treat skin inflammation while also treating bacterial and fungal infections.
