Uses
Halovate 0.05% Cream (Halobetasol) is a type of super high-potency corticosteroid which is used as a treatment for dermatoses which are responsive to corticosteroid treatment. In severe cases, skin conditions may need ultra potent corticosteroids in order to achieve an effective response, and doctors recommend use of this cream in these circumstances.
Conditions for which patients may be told to use this cream include eczematous dermatoses, psoriasis, other forms of dermatitis, skin allergies or rashes. It functions as an antipruritic agent and helps to relieve itching, while at the same time reducing inflammation.
Dosage and Administration
Doctors do not recommend using Halovate 0.05% Cream (Halobetasol) for longer than 2 weeks, and treatment is normally stopped when the symptoms have been controlled. In cases where a satisfactory response is not achieved after 2 weeks of using the cream, treatment is generally discontinued.
Due to the fact that the cream may suppress the HPA (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal) axis, doctors generally tell patients not to apply more than 50g per week. Your doctor will tell you the correct amount of cream to apply, as well as the frequency of application and it is essential that you follow all instructions given to you.
Side effects

This is not a complete list of all possible side effects, and corticosteroids can sometimes cause other side effects. Tell your doctor about any reactions that occur. Serious reactions are also possible, and this can sometimes be caused by the active ingredient being absorbed through the skin. Seek medical treatment straight away if you notice weight gain, weak muscles, insomnia, blurring of vision, changes in mood or any other serious reactions.
Precautions
This cream should not be used to treat perioral dermatitis or rosacea. Patients should also avoid applying it to the groin, face or axillae.
If signs of a viral, bacterial or fungal infection are noticed, you must see your doctor straight away.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Halovate 0.05% Cream (Halobetasol) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
