Uses
Lamictal Dc (Lamotrigine) is used for a number of purposes. Doctors prescribe it for use in combination with other medicines as a treatment for certain types of seizures, such as partial seizures, primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures, and seizures occurring as a result of a condition called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. It is also used on its own as a treatment for partial seizures. As well as being used to treat and control epilepsy, this medicine may be prescribed as a long-term treatment for bipolar disorder, to increase the time in between mood episodes.

Dosage and Administration
Lamictal Dc (Lamotrigine) comes as 50mg tablets. Patients are generally told by their doctor to start out with a low dosage, which is gradually increased over a period of time, as there is a greater risk of severe side effects if a high dosage is taken too early. The full effects of this medicine may not be noticed for at least several weeks after the commencement of treatment. The exact dosage depends on what other medication the patient is taking. Patients who are also taking valproate will have a specific dosage regimen prescribed to them, and the dosage prescribed will differ to that prescribed for patients who are not taking carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone or Valproate. Also, patients who are taking carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone but who are not taking valproate will need to have a different dosage prescribed. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Side effects
Taking Lamictal Dc (Lamotrigine) may sometimes result in side effects, including:

• Tremors
• Insomnia
• Menstrual period changes
• Double vision or blurred vision
• Problems related to speech, concentration or coordination

Report any side effects to your doctor. In rare cases, severe side effects which require immediate medical attention may occur. See your doctor immediately if you notice severe muscle pain or weakness, a worsening of seizures or bipolar disorder, light sensitivity, inflammation of the limbs, fever or any other symptoms of a serious reaction.

Precautions
Serious conditions may occur as a result of taking this medication, such as a potentially life threatening rash or serious problems affecting the liver or blood. Ask your doctor about all the risks of treatment before taking this medication.

Do not abruptly stop taking this medicine. Talk to your doctor, as your dosage may need to be gradually decreased before you can stop treatment. Also, if you cease treatment, and have been told to restart taking this medicine, your doctor will require you to start out on a low dose. Follow the instructions provided to you.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Lamictal Dc (Lamotrigine) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
