Uses
Pramipex (Pramipexole Dihydrochloride) is a dopamine agonist which is widely used by itself or with other medicines to treat Parkinson's disease symptoms, and to provide relief from symptoms of a condition known as RLS (restless leg syndrome). Patients with Parkinson's disease suffer from symptoms such as tremors, spasms of the muscles, a lack of muscle control and shaking, which are believed to be related to low dopamine levels. This drug acts on the receptor sites in the brain, and causes the restoration of dopamine activity, resulting in decreased Parkinson's symptoms.
There has been a substantial amount of research conducted on this drug, which aimed to explore the effects of this drug if used off label for other conditions. This research examined its effects if used for cluster headaches, sexual dysfunction caused by certain medicines, bipolar disorder, depression and fibromyalgia.
Dosage and Administration
Pramipex (Pramipexole Dihydrochloride) comes in the form of tablets, and patients must only take the amount that their doctor directs them to take. Each tablet contains 0.125mg of the main ingredient. Adults treating Parkinson's disease may be instructed to take it 3 times per day, however, it is often necessary for the doctor to gradually increase the dosage so as to achieve the best results. When used for restless leg syndrome, it is possible that the doctor will tell the patient to take it once per day, usually 2 to 3 hours before going to bed.
