Uses
Pramipex (Pramipexole Dihydrochloride) is used as a treatment for idiopathic Parkinson's disease symptoms. Its mechanism of action involves affecting the D2 dopamine receptors. The active ingredient in this drug belongs to a class of medicines called nonergot dopamine agonists. Patients affected by Parkinson's disease suffer from muscular spasms, tremors and an overall lack of muscle control. By activating the dopamine receptors, this medicine can boost the transmission of vital brain signals and relieve these symptoms, which are believed to be caused by low dopamine. Patients have also taken it for restless leg syndrome (RLS).
Dosage and Administration
Pramipex (Pramipexole Dihydrochloride) comes as 0.25mg uncoated tablets for oral administration. Generally, patients are instructed by their doctor to start out with a lower dose, and they may be told to take one 0.125mg strength tablet 3 times per day. If the doctor decides to titrate the dosage for maintenance treatment, the patient may be instructed to take a higher dosage, and the 0.25 tablets may be deemed better suited for this. In all cases, the correct dosage as well as any decisions related to changes in the dosage regimen will be decided by your doctor.
