Uses
Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) contains a female hormone, which is a form of progesterone used to regulate the release of an egg from the ovaries (known as ovulation). These tablets are used for a variety of purposes, including irregular menstrual periods, uterine bleeding, restoring periods in patients who have stopped having them (amenorrhoea), endometriosis, or reducing the risk of endometrial hyperplasia in patients undergoing hormone replacement therapy with oestrogens.
Dosage and Administration
The dosage required depends on the condition you are taking Provera (Medroxyprogesterone) tablets to treat. The dosage for endometrial hyperplasia prophylaxis can often vary, however, adults are sometimes directed to take 5mg to 10mg per day (as an adjunct to HRT with oestrogen). The patient should start taking the tablets on day 1 or 16 or their cycle, and continue taking it for 12 to 14 days consecutively per month. Alternatively, the patient may be directed to take 2.5mg once per day during the course of hormone replacement therapy.
Patients taking these tablets for the treatment of amenorrhoea are generally instructed to take 5mg to 10mg once per day, for a period of 5 to 10 days. Treatment can usually commence at any time, and the patient should notice withdrawal bleeding 3 to 7 days after the last tablet has been taken. It must be noted that the dosage regimens given here are for informational purposes only, and each patient must see their doctor before starting treatment, so that the correct dosage can be prescribed.
