Uses
Rizact-10 (Rizatriptan) is a selective serotonin receptor agonist used by those suffering from severe headaches or, more commonly, migraines. It does not help to prevent or cure these conditions, but instead works effectively to alleviate the symptoms associated with them, for example nausea and sensitivity to light and/or sound. It works by blocking certain messages sent within the brain and preventing certain chemicals from being released.
Dosage and administration
Strictly follow the directions provided by your doctor. Correct dosage and frequency of dosing will depend on the individual. There are many factors that are involved in determine what a safe dose for you is, including your family medical history, your current health and weight, and of course the precise condition you wish to treat and its severity.
Tablets should be taken when you begin to notice signs a migraine/headache are beginning. When taking this medication, place the correct dosage on to your tongue inside your mouth, and then wait for the tablet(s) to dissolve. As the tablets easily dissolve when in contact with moisture it is important you avoid handling them or removing them from their packaging until immediately prior to dosing.
Patients are advised to never take more than 30mg of this medication except for extreme cases where your doctor has specifically advised you to do so.
If you have never taken Rizact before or you at risk of heart conditions, you might be required to take it for the first time at with your doctor so your response can be closely monitored. If there is little or no reaction to the medication within two hours you may be given another dose.
Side effects
The most commonly reported side effects of Rizact-10 (Rizatriptan) are listed below. If any of these worry you, become bothersome, persist or worsen, inform you doctor.
The following adverse effects are all more severe than those listed above. If you show signs such as those below you should seek immediate medical assistance. Similarly if you think you are suffering from an allergic reaction you also need to seek immediate medical attention.
Precautions
Do not drive or participate in any other activities which require a high level of concentration until you know exactly how you react to medicine, as dizziness is among the possible side effects.
This medication can increase your skin's sensitivity to UV rays so it is recommended you avoid sun lamps, and any exposure to direct sunlight. If you must be exposed to direct sunlight, limit the time length as much as possible, cover your skin with clothing, and use sunscreen.
If you are above the age of 40 you should discuss with your doctor the pros and cons of this medication to try to determine if the health benefits out way the possible risks.
Prior to using this medication always inform your doctor of any allergies you have, any other medication you are taking (including non-prescription drugs and supplements), any other existing medical conditions which you have.
It is also important you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to conceive a baby, or breastfeeding.
