Uses
Ropin (Ropinirole) is a medicine that is prescribed to patients affected by Parkinson's disease, to treat their symptoms, such as tremors, slowed movement, problems related to balance control and other related symptoms. It is used either on its own or alongside other drugs to treat this condition. Medical experts believe that symptoms of Parkinson's occur as a result of reduced dopamine activity in the brain. This drug aims to relieve these symptoms by restoring the activity of dopamine.

Another use for this drug is treating RLS (restless legs syndrome). Patients affected by this condition may have frequent urges to move their legs, which can often occur when in a seated position or lying down. Taking this drug can help to improve the sleep of patients by reducing the urge to move the legs.

Dosage and Administration
Ropin (Ropinirole) comes as tablets, which need to be taken by mouth. However, a visit to the doctor is required before treatment can start, so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Adults undergoing treatment for Parkinson's disease are generally told to start out with 0.25mg, taken 3 times per day. Your doctor may adjust your dosage over a period of 5 weeks in order to achieve the best possible results. It is very important that you follow all instructions given to you.

Side effects
Patients who take Ropin (Ropinirole) may sometimes experience side effects, such as:

• Weight loss
• Appetite loss
• Frequent urination
• Erectile problems in male patients
• Problems related to memory or concentration

Side effects should be reported to the prescribing doctor as soon as possible. Serious reactions are possible (but are less common). Medical attention will be required straight away if you notice tremors, hallucinations, double vision or any other serious symptoms.

Precautions
Patients should note that smoking can increase the levels of medication in the blood. Your doctor will most likely tell you not to start smoking, and if you smoke already, your doctor will need to take this into account when prescribing the medicine, and you may also be advised to quit smoking.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
