Uses
Topirol (Topiramate) is an anticonvulsant medication (used to control and treat seizures). Patients with epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and other disorders that cause seizures may be prescribed this drug to prevent the occurrence of seizures. This medicine is also effective at preventing migraine headaches. A combination of the active ingredient in this drug with another ingredient is used for weight loss.
Dosage and Administration
The recommended dosage for Topirol (Topiramate) varies depending on the condition being treated. If you are taking this medicine to help prevent seizures, it is possible that you will be told to take 200mg to 400mg per day, divided into two doses. However, you may be started out on a much lower dosage than this, with the dose being increased by your doctor so as to find the optimum dosage. Migraine prophylaxis may require an initial dose of 25mg per day, taken once in the evening, with this dose increased to 25mg twice per day, once in the morning and again in the evening.
