Uses
Valparin (Sodium Valproate) is used to treat a variety of seizure disorders, and may also be used together with other drugs to treat and prevent seizures. This medicine prevents rapid and other abnormal signals from being released in the brain. It does this by working on a neurotransmitter (a natural chemical) in the brain known as GABA, thereby helping to reduce or minimise seizures. Other conditions this medicine is used to treat include bipolar disorder and migraine.
Dosage and Administration
When prescribing seizure medication such as Valparin (Sodium Valproate) to you, your doctor will decide the correct dosage based on the frequency and seriousness of seizures. Also, patients taking this drug to treat migraine or other conditions may require a different dose to those treating seizures. Only take the amount of medicine your doctor tells you to take. Regular medical tests on the liver function may be required during treatment with this drug. It is essential to attend all scheduled medical appointments.
Side effects

Serious side effects require the immediate attention of a doctor. If you notice bruising, bleeding, weak joints, extreme changes in mood, thoughts of self harm or any other signs of a serious reaction, you need to go and see your doctor immediately.
Precautions
Although it is rare, there is a risk of severe liver problems associated with taking this drug. You must discuss the risks with your doctor, and seek medical attention straight away if signs of this occur, such as vomiting.
Serious damage to the pancreas is possible (but unlikely) while taking this drug. If you notice symptoms of this, such as severe stomach pain, you must see your doctor straight away.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Valparin (Sodium Valproate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
