Uses
Zovirax Cold Sore Cream (Aciclovir) is used topically as a treatment for cold sores occurring on the lips or face. These fever blisters (as cold sores are also known) are caused by a virus known as herpes simplex. Applying this cream to the area affected helps to speed up the healing process, while at the same time providing relief from the itchiness, burning and tingling sensation associated with herpes labialis (cold sores). The active ingredient in this topical cream works by preventing the multiplication of the virus that causes cold sores.
Dosage and Administration
Follow the instructions given to you by your doctor when using Zovirax Cold Sore Cream (Aciclovir) to treat cold sores. This cream is most effective if applied as soon as cold sore symptoms are noticed. Before application, you should wash and dry your hands (and the area requiring treatment). A thin layer of cream may then be applied to the area affected (but not the skin surrounding it). In most cases, doctors instruct their patients to apply it 5 times per day, and treatment can last for 4 days (or longer).
