Uses
Hydrocortisone Cream (Hydrocortisone Acetate) is a topical cream used to treat the symptoms of a wide range of skin conditions, such as those caused by insect bites, poison ivy, dermatitis, or allergies. It is proven to alleviate these symptoms by reducing the swelling and redness which they cause. In addition, some people have used it for sunburn. This cream treats the irritation and inflammation of the skin that occurs as a symptom of the conditions listed here by stopping the action of inflammatory substances. Other uses of this product should be only under the advice of a physician.
Dosage and Administration
Hydrocortisone Cream (Hydrocortisone Acetate) comes as a 1% strength formula. It is possible for systemic effects to occur (such as hypercorticalism) if excess amounts of the cream are applied to the skin. To prevent this, you must only use the amount of cream which your doctor directs you to apply.
Patients should clean and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of Hydrocortisone Cream (Hydrocortisone Acetate) directly to the affected area, and rubbing it gently into the skin. Your physician may instruct you to use this medication up to 4 times a day, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. As prolonged usage of this cream is not recommended, patients are advised not to use it for any longer than prescribed.
