Uses
Imatib (Imatinib Mesylate) is used as a treatment for certain types of leukaemia, including Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), as well as other types. In addition to this, doctors may prescribe it for treating tumours affecting the stomach (gastrointestinal stromal tumours or GIST) and myelodysplastic diseases. Another use for it is treating a tumour which can occur under the skin known as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. This drug is a type of protein tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and it helps to prevent the spread of cancer cells by inhibiting the action of a certain abnormal protein which causes the growth of cancer cells.
Dosage and Administration
Imatib (Imatinib Mesylate) tablets must be taken in accordance with the instructions provided by your doctor. It is possible that you will be directed to take it 1 to 2 times per day. Take each dose with food and a full glass of water.
