Antifungal cream for treating the skin | Bifonazole | Mycospor Cream |
Uses
Mycospor Cream (Bifonazole) has antifungal properties and is used as a topical treatment for ringworm, athlete`s foot and fungal sweat rash. Other skin infections caused by fungi may also be treated using this cream. The active component contained in this medicated cream belongs to a class of medicines known as imidazole antifungals and is said to work by interfering with the synthesis of fungal cell walls.
Medical experts have stated that it exhibits fungicidal activity against dermatophytes (a type of fungi which can infect the skin) but when used against yeasts, it is fungistatic. By blocking the ability of the fungi from producing ergosterol, it causes problems to occur with the fungal cell membranes, leading to the eventual destruction of the fungi. A medical study was also conducted to test its effects if used to treat moccasin type tinea pedis.
Dosage and Administration
Mycospor Cream (Bifonazole) must be applied in strict accordance with the directions given to you by your doctor. It is for topical use only and must never be ingested. Usually, adults will be instructed to apply it once per day (it may be best to apply it before going to bed). A thin layer of cream is applied to the area affected and gently rubbed in. However, before you apply the cream, it may be necessary to wash and dry the skin prior to application, so as to ensure its cleanliness. Your doctor will decide the length of treatment, however treatment may need to continue for 2 to 4 weeks.
