Uses
Norvasc (Amlodipine Besylate) is mainly used for the treatment of hypertension, and the prevention of angina attacks. Treatment with this drug can help to lower blood pressure, as it is a calcium channel blocker (a type of medicine) which helps to widen the blood vessels, thereby improving the blood flow and lowering high blood pressure. When taken regularly, it can also help to prevent or decrease the occurrence of chest pain (angina).

Dosage and Administration
Norvasc (Amlodipine Besylate) comes in the form of tablets, and each tablet contains 5mg of the active ingredient. Patients undergoing treatment for high blood pressure are generally instructed by their doctor to start out with 5mg per day (however, some patients may be told to start with 2.5mg per day). If necessary, the dosage may be adjusted. A maintenance dose of 5mg to 10mg per day may be prescribed if necessary. The dosage for angina or other conditions can vary, and it is important that all instructions given by the doctor at the time of prescription and during the course of treatment are strictly followed.

Side effects
Possible reactions which may be noticed during treatment with Norvasc (Amlodipine Besylate) include:

• Flushing
• Headache
• Swelling of the limbs
• Stomach discomfort or pain
• Feeling tired, drowsy or dizzy

Patients may experience additional side effects, including changes in mood, tremors, impotence, vasculitis, fainting and other reactions which have not been listed here. You are advised to report any reactions to your doctor, and to seek immediate medical care if you suffer from a serious side effect.

Precautions
If you suffer from aortic stenosis, low blood pressure or any diseases affecting the liver, you should tell your doctor before taking this medication.

Dizziness may occur after taking this medicine. If this happens, you should not drive or operate machinery.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Norvasc (Amlodipine Besylate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
